The Winking Eye

The Winking Eye

Read Time: 4 Minutes

Me: Ahh, Maa, please don’t pull my blanket. I’m feeling sleepy; let me sleep for some more time. 😴

Maa: Duggu! Wake up; it’s already 8 am, and there are 30 minutes left for your school time.

(Oho, I wanted to sleep for more time, but Maa is planning to send me to school today. What should I do? Hmm...idea.)

Me: Maa, But I feel that my temperature is rising, and my breath feels hot. Maybe I won’t feel like going to school. Also, I have a stomach-ache, and I can feel a sense of nausea. I will not go to school today, please.

Maa: No, never. I know all your drama, now wake up and get ready. It’s already late, and we’re on the top of the hour. [Pulls out the blanket and wakes me up.] Your uniform is on your bed; wear it fast, and here’s your box ready. Get ready soon.

I went inside the restroom and was thinking of hiding here for the rest of the time. [After some time]

Maa: Duggu, are you getting ready? 😠

Me: Yes, Maa. [Takes a shower very fast, gets up ready, and comes out]

Maa: Here’s your box; now get down. Papa is already waiting with your bag.

Me: Okay, Maa. πŸ˜” I’m going down…

My grandma, who loves me a lot and cheers me up, suddenly held my hand and winked an eye at me. I didn’t understand why. I got down, and my papa dropped me near school. I went inside and my mind was revolving on the same act, “Why did grandma winked at me?” During the school assemblyπŸ˜‰

The first period started, and I wasn’t interested in listening to the teacher at all. I acted to listen. After a long wait, my favorite part came in. It was attendance. As soon as my roll number was called , my voice rose loud, saying, “Yes, Mam.” The bell rang, and the madam left. I was feeling desperate. I wanted to go home badly. Gently, the class monitor called me, saying, “Nithin! Principal Mam is calling you. Someone has come to meet you.” I was shocked, “Who would it be?” and took steps towards the principal's cabin with a tired mind. I stepped inside, and there was also a person seated before the principal. I lifted my head and felt astonished. Straight away a smile appeared on my cheeks, and I hugged her, tears rolling in my eyes, saying, “Grandma, take me home fast.”

Grandma: Yes, Duggu, I’ve come to take you home.

I rushed and brought my bag; suddenly I felt like I was super energized. Grandma held my hand; we came back home. She removed my shoes silently, and we entered. But we were caught by maa.

Maa: What happened? Duggu is back from school early?

Grandma: I received a call on our telephone from Duggu's school saying he is unwell and having a stomachache. So, I brought him back home. Now! Duggu, you go and sleep; take a rest. Go, go.

Grandma told me with a Winking eye 😍
