Read Time: 4 Minutes

Hey, Ashok! Our In-Charge is calling you; go fast. My friend Deekshith said. Listening to it, I put my books aside and approached Mr. Santosh, who was in charge of our college.

“Ah! Ashok, here is your pile. Take it, and you must report near the Super Junior College at Narayanaguda at 7:30 am. Do not forget.”

I collected the pile and returned home. Now, you all may be wondering, what am I speaking about? Our family’s financial stability was so much worse during 2019. I used to distribute pamphlets so that I could utilize that money for college fees. And the next day, I woke up and dressed myself in a white shirt, blue jeans, and a red cap. It was the day of the NEET UG examination. Roads were filled with traffic, students travelling here and there, and their parents following them. Many of them reached exam centers and waited near the gate. In the hot, scorching sun, drenched in sweat, now it is time for me to start my duty, remove the cover, cut the thread, and open the pamphlets, which had information about long-term courses. The pile on my left hand and a pinch of it spreading from my right hand. The exam started, and parents, relatives, etc., took seats in nearby places. I saw one person under a tree and went near him to give him my first sheet. As soon as he saw it, he could not understand, so he folded it and kept it in his bag. The second guy took it and kept it in his bike cover, and it continued. All of them took it; 70% of those threw it away after a glance. Watching them, I felt dejected. Why did they throw it? What would happen if they carried? I also felt disrespected. Each time my hand gave one, most of the time it was thrown before me or after a certain distance. But not everyone's the same; few inquired regarding the course, college, duration, fees, etc. When they asked questions, I got activated and felt. Oh! So, there will be someone who will read this program. There will be someone with whom I can talk. Small happiness came inside me. Feeling thirsty, I looked for a pot or general store nearby. Same as a pearl in lots of oysters, I observed one man who saw me from a far cry. He walked towards me and asked for a sheet. That was the moment I felt astonished; “I saw people who took sheets and threw them away; I saw people taking sheets and inquiring about the program. Do beings like these really exist who come from far and ask for a sheet?”

Immediately, I gave him one. Explained to him the details. He was so polite and humble. I felt very happy then. I nailed his face in my mind.

The exam got completed, and students rushed out. I reported to college. After an hour of waiting. Hurrah! Got my money, payment 400/- for the day. Tiredly returned home, and in that evening, I remembered that one person who came and asked for the sheet. He has not done much for me, just small steps ahead and an action in asking for a sheet. I learned a lesson; a small action like asking for a sheet could make a memorable impact on someone’s life.

Till date, if I see anyone distributing pamphlets, I approach them and ask for a sheet. It might help me or not, but for sure that person will have a happy moment. In your case, it would not only be a pamphlet. It could be anything that will make a painting on the empty canvas of another person. Just a small action... makes a big impact.
